The strategy behind M3A+I focuses on improving the fabric of a space, neighborhood, or community by efficient design, natural light, coupled with harnessing the strength of renewable energy.

Malone III Atelier + Initiative is a design studio founded by R. Lee Malone III. The office provides design services, master planning, surveying, documents and administration for new urban / arid region construction and restoration. Planning Dept submittal package navigation, coordination of the various planning boards and coastal commissions, as well as client consultant coordination are all within our scope of services.

In terms of the built environment, M3A+I allocates a lot of operational time studying the possibilities of its concepts through competitions and property development. The studio endeavors to bring a very practical approach to site development. Development of a form language that encompasses unique geometry, its relationship with natural light, and site, creates a departure point for exciting spaces that can manifest themselves in dynamic ways. Its my belief that this approach to design direction enhances the users experience with the building envelope. The M3A+I guiding idea of built works as sculpture reinforces the studio mission of extending world class design to locations off of the grid. This approach also supports the exploration of a self sustaining living condition and addresses the conversation of our need to resolve the dependency on fossil fuels while also housing those in need.

The location in Echo Park California gives the studio a grounded presence with artists in the community through sculptural exhibitions. The studio engages large scale public and private art works with metal, concrete, and bass wood sculptures as its primary material medium.
