14W Apts. Lounge / Bar

After designing the entry lobby and sales office for the 14W project, the client had interest in putting together a space for its new tenents to gather socially. A communal space was needed. The program asked for a room for viewing films, internet access, gaming tables, and a kitchen / bar for preparing snacks and drinks.This community space, known as "The Party Room", would combine an existing building envelope with the new construction. The space would be located on the third story of the new building with the existing structure serving as a mezzanine level to mitigate the floor plate differences. The final design, celebrates the threshold between old and new with a banding of wood. Once again with the support of Randy Gerner of GKV, this project became one of my favorite design challenges.
